What could be better than a pile of dirt ...

Uncle Kevin took the kids up to the sand pit this weekend, and found this instead. A developer is going to build on our beloved sand pit, and had created a great place for the kids to play.

As a child my brothers and I would toboggan, snowmobile and climb the hills. Now twenty-five years later our kids are doing the same things.

Scarlett completed her first 5km walk/run ....

this past weekend. The run was called "Its cool to be me 5km" and was run through Girls on the Run.

www.girlsontherun.ca

Scarlett has been attending a 10 week program twice a week, where they not only learn to run/walk 5km but also learn about self-respect, empowerment, healthy choices and community service.

Each Tues/Thurs she met will her coaches for 1 hour and 15minutes where they discussed many different topics including ...

body image
healthy eating choices
drugs / alcohol
inner beauty / vs inner beauty
peer pressure
perseverance

and many more topics. She really enjoyed the program, and is looking forward to signing up again next year.

The race included approximately 4000 girls who had completed the program this year in the GTA.

Scarlett's team played in a hockey tournament over Christmas in Whitby .....

after a very hard fought battle the girls won a silver medal.

This was probably the hardest tournament the girls have played in so far. The competition was tough.

The girls won the first game 5-1, lost the second 8-1 so they were a bit disappointed after the first day.

Day two brought on a very hard fought win, with a score of 2-1.

Sadly for Scarlett she got sick that night, poor thing was up all night and finally fell asleep around 4:00 a.m. As soon as she woke up she wanted to know if the girls had won the semi final game.

When she found out they won she and her dad were determined to make it to the final game. No way was she abandoning her team in their hour of need.

I had my doubts but she got dressed, packed her hockey stuff and we jumped in truck to race to the game.

5 minutes down the road, she realized that she had used all of her energy just in getting dressed and pretty much begged to go back home.

I think her dad was more disappointed at missing the game than she was thou.

So while she isn't in this picture of the girls with their silver medals, they did present her with a medal at their next regular game.

Georgina Golden Hawks Atom Girls win Gold !!!!

Scarlett's team won gold at the Central York Girls Hockey Association Tournament in November.

She was very excited to participate as she was asked to play up an age group, so for this tournament she moved into Atom (girls ages 9-10)

Not sure if this was actually the goal she got, but it was one of her many attempts.

This is how my handsome boy left the house this morning, and this is how he came back 2 hours later when I asked his dad to get him a trim, to clean up his mop top a bit.

Crazy Hair day .....

Today was crazy hair day at camp, so Kaleb and I went shopping to see what we could find. He choose Toronto Maple Leaf blue and silver hair gel.

He asked that I spike his hair then add the colors. So I back combed his hair the best I could and added the gel.

The poor boy went to the mirror took one look and started to cry, he so didn't like it. but it was time to leave for camp so he was stuck with it for the day. These pics are about a half hour after I finished, and the spikes were not staying up, but you get the general idea with the colors.

Soccer, Soccer, Soccer

The things you find while on a walk ....

My dad was out for a walk a few weeks ago, and came across a strange sight. Plastic cups being held down by two forks. He continued walking along the path they made, and realized what it was.

The cups that were still attached to the ground had tiny little marijuana plants under them, these pictures are of the bigger plants.

Needless to say he hasn't walked out in these fields again since.

Canada Day 2009 .....

We watched Canada Day fireworks in Lindsay this year. It was a great show, and the kids loved it.
I have to say these are two pretty cute kids.

We got my dad a Nikon D90 for his 60th birthday this year, and these are some pics I got of the fireworks. Now I just have to convince Martin to let me buy the same camera. I can only imagine if I new the proper settings what this first one would have looked like,
